It's no secret that Eastern NC likes a good Pirate adventure. From Pirate festivals, the legend of Blackbeard, and the pirate-themed fun, we're not trying to hide it. When you take a closer look, there are a few spots you can take your young explorers to get their pirate adventures in year-round.
The Pirate Ships
There are a few awesome playgrounds around with pirate ship-themed playgrounds. These are great stops for a quick day out and adventure.
-
Pirates Den Park - Swansboro How cool is that name? It just makes you think of a pirate hideout and buried treasure. It's a small neighborhood park in Swansboro that also allows dogs and includes public restrooms and picnic tables.
-
Richard C. Peters Park - North Topsail This is North Topsail's town park and has nature trails, a kayak launch, different sports fields, picnic shelters, and of course another awesome pirate ship playground. With convenient access to the beach, this is a great stop to make before heading across the street to the public beach access.
-
Soundside Park - Surf City If you're willing to venture into Pender for a day trip, Soundside Park has some awesome boardwalks and opportunities to see local wildlife, fish, enjoy a picnic, and another big pirate ship playground. There is also a public boat ramp, allowing you to embark on your own adventure after visiting the playground.
-
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park - Morehead City This is a must-see pirate playground. The detail on this ship is absolutely amazing, including a treasure chest, alligator walking stones, and more. This one really nails the pirate ship look and feel. This park also features public restrooms, picnic areas, and is near shops and restaurants, making it a great stop to explore.
