Onslow County Environmental Education Center
Description
The Onslow County Environmental Education Center in Sneads Ferry is a free county nature exhibit run by the Onslow County Museum. Its "Discover Onslow" exhibit explores the ecology, geography, plants and animals of Onslow County. A center island displays native wildlife, including a black bear, a bobcat and a twelve-foot alligator, giving kids a close look at animals that live in the region. Other sections cover the county's rivers, plants and animals, culture, environment and ecology, which makes the exhibit a straightforward way to teach young children about the area around them. Admission is free. Outside, a boardwalk and outdoor classroom give groups room for extra activities and workshops. Schools and other groups can book free guided tours for up to 60 people. Tours run rain or shine, and groups larger than 30 rotate through stations that include an outdoor classroom activity. Tours must be scheduled at least two weeks ahead. The center is connected to the Sneads Ferry branch library, so families can pair a visit to the exhibit with a stop at the library.
