Bogue Inlet Fishing Pier
Description
Bogue Inlet Pier is a family-owned ocean fishing pier on the west end of Emerald Isle that stretches about 1,000 feet into the Atlantic. It has operated for more than 60 years, and the Stanley family has run it since 1971. Depending on the season, anglers catch Spanish and king mackerel, bluefish, pompano, sea mullet, spot and red drum, and the pier holds the North Carolina state record sea mullet, caught here in 1971. The pier store at the entrance sells bait, tackle, drinks, food and beach gear, and it rents rod-and-reel combos, so families without their own gear can still fish. A daily fishing pass covers up to two rods per person and includes parking, and children 6 and under fish free. No North Carolina coastal recreational fishing license is needed to fish from the pier. Restrooms are on site. Surf's Up Grill & Bar sits at the pier entrance, and an ice cream shop is on the property. Paid beach parking applies from mid-April through Labor Day; anglers with a fishing pass park free, and restaurant and ice cream receipts earn free parking time. The pier is seasonal, typically opening in March and closing to the public for the winter.
